Leading automotive engineering consultancy, HORIBA MIRA, is thrilled to announce its outstanding success at the Engineering and Manufacturing Awards 2023. The company proudly won two titles, the award for ‘Digital Innovation’ and ‘Engineering Consultancy’ and was highly commended in the ‘R&D Project’ award, reaffirming its position as a leader in innovation and engineering excellence.
The Engineering and Manufacturing Awards celebrate the individuals, teams, companies and projects at the forefront of UK engineering, championing the role that engineers are playing in addressing many of the challenges faced by today’s society.
The ‘Engineering Consultancy’ award, underscores HORIBA MIRA’s expertise in providing world-class engineering solutions to clients across the globe. The company’s holistic approach to consultancy, rooted in its DNA of optimisation, integration and verification, has consistently delivered exceptional results, further solidifying its reputation as a trusted partner in the automotive industry.
Additionally, the ‘Digital Innovation’ award celebrates demonstrable and outstanding examples of the application of digital technologies. HORIBA MIRA was awarded for its work on Project ViVID (Virtual Vehicle Integration and Development) – a collaboration between HORIBA MIRA, Ford and Loughborough University – to develop new digital engineering tools to reduce the reliance on serial engineering and physical prototypes. HORIBA MIRA’s contribution to the project was the development of co-simulation technologies that effectively remove the vehicle development phase that traditionally sits between concept architecture and product verification by replacing it with a digital engineering approach, saving millions on a typical vehicle development programme.
Furthermore, HORIBA MIRA was highly commended in the ‘R&D Project’ category, an award highlighting the most exciting research and development taking place in the UK. HORIBA MIRA was highly commended for its remarkable work on Project Theseus – an R&D project focused on the feasibility of automating supplies to soldiers. The project looked to determine which tasks in the ‘last mile’ of the battlefield can be automated, such as the use of self-driving air or ground platforms to deliver combat supplies, providing innovative solutions to the British Army.
Guy Foulger, HORIBA MIRA’s Engineering and Technology Director, said: “These accolades are a testament to the hard work and dedication of the exceptional people here at HORIBA MIRA. Our commitment to delivering industry-leading engineering consultancy services, innovation and collaborative research is unwavering and I am immensely proud of each and every member of our team for their outstanding contributions to the industry.”
The winners were unveiled at an awards ceremony in London on 13 September 2023. Jon Excell, Editor and Publisher of The Engineer, one of the publications behind the awards, said: “This year’s competition has shone a spotlight on the incredible contribution made by manufacturers large and small and showcased both the innovative measures that engineers across industry are taking to grow their businesses in challenging times as well as the role played by engineers in addressing some of society’s most pressing challenges. Our shortlist – which was bristling with inspiring tales of best practice and innovation – provided myself and the rest of the judging panel with plenty of reasons to feel very positive about the future of UK industry. Congratulations to all of this years finalists and winners.”
