Congratulations to UKAEA’s Professor Sir Ian Chapman who has been presented with his knighthood by The Prince of Wales at an Investiture at Windsor Castle, on the same day as becoming a Fellow of the Royal Society for his services to global fusion energy in (announced in the New Year Honours List 2023.

Commenting on this significant day, Professor Sir Ian Chapman said:

“I am extremely honoured to have been elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society, which has coincided with a truly memorable occasion at Windsor Castle following celebrations for the Coronation of His Majesty The King. These tremendous honours are reflective of the things we achieve together at UKAEA where a team of brilliant people are continuously pushing the boundaries of science and engineering as we strive towards making fusion energy part of the world’s future energy supply.”

Fusion energy offers the potential of an abundant, inherently safe low-carbon electricity. It involves fusing hydrogen particles in a hot gas known as a ‘plasma’ to unlock large amounts of energy.
