Paul, who has served on the AIRTO Board since 2014, is the Chief Executive Officer of the UK’s National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL). Paul is well known and networked in government as well as across the wider innovation sector; he has held commercial, technical and delivery roles in the nuclear industry with Battelle, The University of Manchester and British Nuclear Fuels Ltd.
Commenting on his appointment Paul said, “This is a very exciting time for organisations working in innovation! AIRTO has a unique opportunity to build on the government’s recognition in its’ recent Industrial Strategy of the importance of innovation. The UK has a thriving and vibrant innovation services and support sector which AIRTO represents extremely effectively. Innovation touches every single sector of society in one way or another.
AIRTO can help government, but also reach out to champion and provide a voice for innovation across the economy in the context of the new Industrial Strategy. I’m looking forward to working with colleagues on the Board and throughout the AIRTO membership to make that happen!”
Paul succeeds Dr Neil Sanderson as Chairman. Neil has served as Chairman of the Board for a number of years while the organization has expanded, developed and extended its influence. He has worked closely with the President, Richard Brook, to achieve significant advancement for AIRTO as a professionally run organisation with a challenging ambition and strategy.
Reflecting on his time as Chairman, Neil commented, “It has been a stimulating and exciting period, and I wish Paul every success in leading the Board going forward and working alongside Richard to continue championing the UK’s innovation sector.”
