NPIP’s ground breaking total-body PET technology platform

With an investment of £32 million from the UK Government through UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), NPIP’s ground breaking total-body PET technology platform will help drive the nation’s reputation as a global life science superpower.

The launch of the UK’s first-of-its-kind national total-body PET imaging platform will provide a complete picture of the nation’s clinical PET imaging research, leading to transformations in the way we research, predict and treat diseases forever.

The impact will have far-reaching effects on the progress of the scientific, medical, and academic communities and for patients across the UK.

The investment has funded a unique blend of high-tech infrastructure and collective intelligence, all delivered through the National PET Imaging Platform (NPIP). Through NPIP, the nation will have a richer picture of human health for clinical research, helping us to develop drugs and diagnostics more effectively and bring them to market quicker.

Two cutting-edge total-body PET scanners, provided by Siemens Healthineers, will deliver outstanding image clarity of a patient’s entire body in near real-time. These state-of-the-art facilities will be sited in Scotland and London and will serve the length and breadth of the UK. Each location will be jointly managed by the Universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow in Scotland and by Imperial College London and King’s College LondonRead more
