FloWave Ocean Energy Research Facility

The FloWave Ocean Energy Research Facility, located on the Science & Engineering campus at University of Edinburgh, is the world’s most sophisticated ocean simulator.

Able to replicate normal, challenging and extreme ocean events at scale within its 25m diameter circular test tank, the FloWave Ocean Energy Research Facility offers engineers and developers a unique opportunity to de-risk new designs and projects at model scale prior to deployment at sea. With a specific focus on wave and tidal energy technologies, but with experience in floating offshore wind, novel vessel design, ROV/AUV control systems testing, and development and evaluation of novel oceanographic sensor equipment, the expert team at FloWave have experience with clients from a wide range of industry sectors.

FloWave joins The European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) as a major UK infrastructure asset for testing offshore technologies, and is a vital stepping stone on the pathway to commercialisation for new and developing ocean technologies.
