Read AIRTO’s article in Breakthrough on Levelling Up for research and innovation

Read AIRTO’s latest piece in UKSPA’s Breakthrough Magazine (pages 18 – 19) on welcome clarity offered from the government in the Levelling Up White Paper, about priorities for the Research, Development and Innovation components of its strategy for our economy and society. AIRTO contends that the principles of fairness and balance which prevail in the Levelling Up White Paper, may also be applied to public spending on research and development (R&D), to address the imbalance between research and development without any detriment to the former. The UK’s current imbalance of public funding for ‘R’ versus ’D’ is in marked contrast to proportions of public expenditure made by competitor nations, where there is more emphasis on supporting the exploitation of basic research, ‘R’, by investing a commensurate amount in ‘D’.
