The Institute of Physics’ Apprenticeship Employer Award recognises and acknowledges the variety of approached taken to apprenticeships by organisations of different size. NPL has received the 2021 Apprenticeship Employer Award in the Large category for inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers and enabling innovation to thrive by fostering enthusiasm from energetic, enthusiastic and talented young people.
As the UK’s National Metrology Institute, NPL recognises the importance of promoting STEM activities and inspiring the next generation, so after 20 years, NPL restarted its apprenticeship programme in 2013, recruiting Junior Science apprentices.
Since then, NPL has add more apprenticeships including Engineering, Metrology (leading the trailblazer for both level 3 and 5), IT, Business Administration, Digital Marketing and Finance. The programme is continually reviewed and improved to ensure it delivers impact for apprentices and the organisation. Recent enhancements include deeper collaboration between supervisors, training providers and apprentices to provide an even more professional, streamlined and enjoyable experience
