Warwick Manufacturing Group HVM Catapult

Chief Executive: Archie MacPherson

Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) is a department in the University of Warwick’s science faculty. Founded in 1980, WMG works with industrial partners in collaborative applied research and development projects which typically achieve significant commercial success.

The WMG centre of the HVM Catapult is specifically focused on the global challenge of low carbon mobility and is working in four key technology areas:

  • Lightweight materials and structures
  • Energy storage and management
  • Advanced propulsion
  • Intelligent vehicles

We have acknowledged expertise in electrification and hybridisation of automotive drive systems, and are now facilitating knowledge transfer to other transport sectors, including rail, buses, off-road vehicles and marine. Work in our Energy Innovation Centre is developing next generation battery chemistries which have applications in transport, as well as more widely in static energy storage systems.
